William Hoyt Venable (1852-1905) and Samuel Hoyt Venable (1856-1939)
were involved with the Stone Mountain
quarrying industry. The Venable brothers
were the sole owners of Stone Mountain and much surrounding land which
they purchased in 1887 at a claimed cost of $350,000.
The Venable brothers and their heirs owned the mountain until it was purchased by the state of Georgia in 1958.
