Raphael Semmes (1809-1877) was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1826–1860 and in the Confederate States Navy from 1860–1865.

In the Civil War he was a captain and then a rear admiral. He also served briefly as brigadier general.

The road at the marina is named in his honor.
