Several homesteads existed at Stone Mountain over the years, and they still remain in varying condition.
One is located along the
Cherokee Trail near the
Nature Garden Trail and at
the start of the
Orienteering Course. The original roofline of the homestead is clearly visible near the top of the chimney.
There is a bench next to the chimney and it makes a nice place for a rest or a bite to eat.

Next to the bench are pieces of what were originally decorative pillars on each side of the entrance door.

Another homestead was located along
Connecting trail 4 on the north side of
Venable Lake.
This cabin was the home of Willie Hill Venable, the nephew of the
Venable Brothers.
He ran a gift shop and museum in the old carving studio.

A chimney and many large stones remain today.
There was once a cottage near the
Grist Mill. It was approximately forty feet by eighteen feet.
All that remains of it today is the foundation and some steps.
